A new FIR has been registered against several lawyers for allegedly assaulting the Station House Officer (SHO) in Rajab Butt’s assault case.
Earlier, a case was registered against them and others for physically assaulting Rajab.
The incident took place on Monday on the premises of the City Courts in Karachi, where Rajab Butt appeared before the court for a hearing on his interim bail plea.
The incident also sparked a reaction from Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, who termed the incident unfortunate and told the media that it was not a good thing for society that lawyers, instead of protecting the law, took the law into their own hands.
Butt’s sister, Ghazal Jawad, who is also a social media influencer, posted a collage of pictures on her Instagram account, showing injury marks on her brother’s body.
She wrote: “We want justice for Rajab bhai. If this is happening with a renowned face in Pakistan, then what about the aam awam [common people]?”
A group of lawyers reportedly attacked the YouTuber when he arrived at the court. On the other hand, the court extended the interim bail of Rajab Butt till January 13.
It is pertinent to mention that Rajab butt has been facing legal proceedings in multiple cases. He returned to Pakistan on December 10 from London after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted the YouTuber a 10-day protective bail.
