Web desk: Tensions flared at the City Courts on Tuesday after lawyers staged a protest against the registration of a case filed by YouTuber Rajab Butt over an alleged assault inside the court premises.
According to police, Rajab Butt lodged a case at the City Court police station against Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi and others.
Butt accused them of assault and issuing death threats. The case was registered following an incident in which Rajab Butt was attacked by lawyers within the City Court premises.
In response, members of the legal community protested against the registration of the case. They demanded action against Rajab Butt instead.
Lawyers surrounded the City Court police station and raised slogans. They insisted that a case should also be registered against the YouTuber.
MA Jinnah road blocked
Police said the protesting lawyers later blocked MA Jinnah Road. The protest had blocked traffic in the area.
The road was reportedly blocked by Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi and his associates to press their demands.
After some time, the protesters ended their demonstration and reopened MA Jinnah Road for traffic, police confirmed.
Rajab Butt injured in attack
Previously, famous YouTuber Rajab Butt reportedly sustained injuries in an attack during his appearance at Karachi court.
The incident took place at the Karachi City Court on Monday. Rajab Butt appeared for a hearing on his interim bail plea.
Reports said a group of lawyers attacked the YouTuber when he arrived at the court. Meanwhile, the court extended Rajab Butt’s interim bail until January 13.

Karachi lawyers in trouble
After videos of the attack on popular YouTuber Rajab Butt went viral online, an FIR was filed against the involved Karachi lawyers.
According to reports, Rajab Butt’s lawyer, Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq, registered the FIR against the group of lawyers who allegedly attacked his client during a court appearance.
The FIR names Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi and his associates. It cites sections 147, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code, covering rioting, assault, and unlawful assembly.
In his complaint, Ali Ashfaq said that Rajab Butt was attacked by Advocate Riaz Ali Solangi, Abdul Fatah, and 15 to 20 others while he was at the Karachi City Court to seek interim bail.
“He was also harassed and threatened with death. His bag, which contained three lakh rupees in cash, was snatched from him,” said Barrister Ashfaq.
