The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has issued its forecast regarding the Rajab moon sighting for Rajab-ul-Murajjab 1447 Hijri.

According to Suparco, the new moon of Rajab-ul-Murajjab is expected to be born on December 20, 2025, at 06:43 am. Astronomical calculations show that by sunset on December 21, the moon’s age will be 35 hours and 26 minutes.

Suparco said that in Pakistan’s coastal areas, the gap between sunset and moonset on December 21 is expected to be around 63 minutes, which creates favourable conditions for moon sighting.

Experts believe that due to these conditions, there are strong chances of the Rajab moon being visible to the naked eye on the evening of December 21. Based on these astronomical factors, the first day of Rajab-ul-Murajjab is likely to fall on December 22, 2025.

Suparco also clarified that the final announcement regarding the beginning of Rajab-ul-Murajjab will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after receiving moon sighting reports from across the country.

Rajab marks the beginning of the final spiritual approach toward Ramadan, which traditionally follows the completion of Rajab and the subsequent month of Sha’ban.

The exact start of fasting will ultimately depend on the confirmed sighting of the Ramadan crescent by authorised religious bodies in each country.
