Ramadan crackdown in Islamabad: At least 40 beggars arrested

During the sacred month of Ramadan, the district administration in Islamabad has initiated an operation targeting beggars, leading to the detention of over 40 individuals.

This action was undertaken following the directives of the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, with specialised teams deployed throughout the city to identify and remove beggars from public areas, as stated by the spokesman of the ICT administration.

Officials have indicated that the operation aims to maintain order during Ramadan, a period when markets, mosques, and roads experience heightened public activity.

Special teams from the district administration are conducting inspections at busy intersections, shopping districts, and near places of worship to identify individuals engaged in begging.

According to officials, more than 40 beggars have been taken into custody during the ongoing initiative and transferred to police lock-ups.

DC Islamabad launches anti begging campaign

The administration has announced that this campaign will persist throughout Ramadan to deter professional beggars and ensure unobstructed movement for citizens.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has instructed field officers to remain vigilant and ensure rigorous monitoring in their respective jurisdictions.

Authorities have also been directed to collaborate with relevant departments to verify the backgrounds of those detained and to take appropriate legal action.

The administration has noted that some of the detained individuals were allegedly involved in organised begging, while others were found repeatedly at the same locations.

Officials have stated that data on the detained beggars is being compiled to prevent their return to the streets after their release.

The district administration has called upon citizens to cooperate with the authorities and refrain from giving money to beggars.

Officials believe that public cooperation is crucial for the effectiveness of the campaign.

The administration has also encouraged individuals to report begging activities to local authorities to facilitate timely intervention.
