The federal government has reported significant progress in distributing financial assistance under the Prime Minister’s Ramzan Relief Package 2026, with payments reaching 89 percent of registered beneficiaries across the country. Officials say the effort marks one of the most wide-reaching support drives in recent months.

A review meeting held in Islamabad, chaired by Shehbaz Sharif, examined the pace and effectiveness of the programme. The prime minister praised the relevant institutions for maintaining transparency and ensuring that funds are delivered without major delays.

He described Social Protection Wallets as a key step forward in modernising welfare delivery. According to officials, the system is helping strengthen financial technology use while also improving accountability in public payments.

Digital outreach and transaction activity

The meeting was informed that more than 1.95 million digital transactions have already been completed under the relief package. This growing shift towards digital payments is being seen as a practical way to reduce manual intervention and improve traceability.

To support beneficiaries, the government also ran a broad awareness campaign through print, electronic and social media platforms. This has helped people stay informed about payment methods and eligibility details.

In addition, the helpline has handled around 1.7 million calls, while nearly 2.7 million SMS messages have been sent to guide beneficiaries and share updates about the programme.

Officials further briefed the meeting that the initiative has contributed to reducing the gender gap in access to digital financial services, as more women are now able to receive and manage payments through formal systems.

The prime minister also instructed that all payments under the Benazir Income Support Programme be routed through Social Protection Wallets. The aim is to improve transparency, cut delays and make the process more efficient.

The government reiterated its commitment to inclusive social protection and said that efforts are under way to ensure timely disbursement to all remaining beneficiaries.
