AJK Police said peace has been restored in Rawalakot after a swift operation against miscreants involved in violence and attacks on public property.
Authorities confirmed that the situation is now under control, with law enforcement maintaining security across the city.
The AJK Police said in a press release that on June 7 members of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee turned violent in Rawalakot, blocking roads and damaging public property.
The blockade had a profound impact on the daily lives and services in the region, the statement added.
One of the most serious effects of the protest was blocking access to medical treatment and emergency services to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Rawalakot, police said.
During the operation, the safety of the public and access to health facilities became one of the top priorities, authorities said.
The police crackdown got under way on June 7 and was extended until June 8.
The roads were reopened and the siege at the CMH lifted, while hospital operations were also resumed as per protocol, the statement said.
Medical services and emergency response operations have restarted, without disruption, officials said.
Since then, peace has been restored in Rawalakot and the markets are open while business activities are continuing as usual, said AJK Police.
The department advised people to stay away from “misinformation” and trust only official channels for updates regarding the situation.
