Speaking at the ceremony, the chief minister said Rawalpindi looked “very beautiful today” and noted that development work in the city was being carried out “day and night.”
She said the new green electric buses were a gift for the people of Rawalpindi and part of efforts to complete major projects in a short time.
Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz also said that the government was providing the best possible transport facilities to citizens and ensuring the timely completion of development schemes.
She added that significant progress had been achieved during the current PML-N term. CM Punjab also claimed that major development work had historically taken place during the Pakistan Muslim League N (PML-N) governments.
She also criticised political opponents, saying some had focused only on “rudeness and immorality,” while even critics now acknowledged the PML-N’s development record.
The chief minister said the electric buses would help reduce pollution in the city.
She announced that women and senior citizens would be able to travel free of cost, while the buses were equipped with wheelchairs for disabled passengers, free Wi-Fi, and CCTV cameras for passenger safety, particularly to protect women from harassment.
“These electric buses will not pollute the atmosphere,” Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said.
She further added, “There will be a free travel facility for women and senior citizens in electric buses. Wheelchairs have been provided for the disabled in buses.”
Regarding the security of women on the buses, she said, “Free Wi-Fi has been arranged in electric buses. CCTV cameras have been installed in buses to protect women from harassment.”
