Free stroke medicines available at HFH

RAWALPINDI: As part of Punjab Government initiative to provide quality health care at minimum cost, life-saving injections are being provided free of cost to stroke patients at the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi

According to the hospital administration, thrombolytic injection TPA (Alteplase/Actilyse injection is being provided to new stroke patients within the first 24 hours of stroke.

The market price of TPA injection is about Rs 80,000.

Officials say that this injection dissolves blood clots and its timely use reduces the risk of permanent disability.

The free facility will provide financial relief to patients and their families.

According to the health department, this initiative is part of the policy to improve emergency healthcare.

Experts have stressed that the patient should be taken to the hospital immediately as soon as the symptoms of stroke appear. The injection is more effective in the initial hours.

Besides Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi, the Punjab government has also provided free TPA injections to 15 other government hospitals

The designated hospitals include Services, Mayo, Punjab Institute of Neurosciences, Sir Ganga Ram and Jinnah Hospital Lahore.

The list also includes Allied and Aziz Fatima Hospitals Faisalabad, Nishtar Hospital Multan, Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital Sialkot.

In addition, Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan, DHQ Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Narowal and Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur are also included in the list.
