Rawalpindi steps up action on illegal housing schemes

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has intensified its efforts against illegal housing schemes, following the commissioner’s directive for strict legal action against developers, along with a public advisory aimed at safeguarding investors.

As stated by an RDA spokesperson, in response to the instructions from Commissioner Rawalpindi and Director General RDA, Engr. Aamer Khattak, the authority’s Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorate has intensified crackdown against illegal schemes operating within its jurisdiction.

The commissioner has approved actions against the owners, sponsors, and developers engaged in unlawful housing projects within the territories governed by the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi, as well as the tehsil and district councils of Rawalpindi, Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan, and Kahuta.

The spokesperson further noted that numerous breaches of the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Schemes Rules, 2021 have been identified, such as the initiation of schemes without prior approval, unauthorised development and sale of plots, failure to submit required documentation, and significant deviations from sanctioned layout plans.

He further mentioned that these violations were uncovered through inspections, public complaints, and the monitoring of advertisements across various media platforms, including print, electronic, and social media.

In accordance with the commissioner’s directives, enforcement actions have been expedited, which include the issuance of notices, filing of FIRs, sealing of offices and project sites, demolition of illegal constructions, prohibitions on property transactions, and referral of cases to the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Wing and other pertinent authorities.

The RDA has warned all sponsors and developers of illegal housing schemes to immediately halt unlawful activities, including development, marketing, advertising, booking, and sale of plots, or they will face further legal repercussions without prior notice.
