Fake doctors on the rise in Pakistan

In January, Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, the secretary general of the Pakistan Medical Association, stated that there are over 600,000 fake doctors operating throughout Pakistan.

This national statistic has been validated by the Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC), which based its estimates on data from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

Describing the situation as a public health crisis, Shoro said that these unqualified practitioners often partner up with legitimate doctors, acquire some knowledge, and later establish their own clinics.

“Inexperienced doctors lack understanding of the side effects and precise dosages of medications. An improper diagnosis of a disease can lead to severe consequences,” Abdul Ghafoor Shoro added.

In an official announcement, the council stated that it has observed an increase in misleading advertisements being circulated on social media and in print media, particularly targeting students who were unable to pass the MDCAT.
