Good news for the youth of Rawalpindi especially cricket lovers, as authorities have decided to introduce the ‘Rawalpindi Tigers’ cricket team.
According to media reports, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi on Saturday announced the formation of the Rawalpindi Tigers cricket team, stating that only players holding a Rawalpindi domicile would be eligible for selection.
The trials for the newly announced team will be held on February 14 and 15.
Addressing a press conference alongside Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana, Abbasi said the Rawalpindi Tigers would be developed into a world-class team.
He highlighted the role of Lahore Qalandars in promoting cricket among youth and said the franchise would guide and mentor the new team.
Abbasi said that the people of Pakistan share a deep passion for cricket and praised Lahore Qalandars for their contribution to talent development.
He added that the Rawalpindi Tigers would eventually be taken to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The minister said that sports facilities had been provided to young people across Rawalpindi in schools and colleges, and that the trials would be conducted strictly on merit to provide deserving players with a major platform.
He also announced plans to form a girls’ team and said a world-class squash court had been constructed at Fatima Jinnah University.
Abbasi claimed that no other franchise had developed Pakistani cricketing talent as effectively as the Lahore Qalandars and added that his constituency has more cricket grounds than any other area.
