Prominent Pakistani poet, naat reciter and religious speaker Syed Salman Gilani dies after a prolonged illness in Lahore.

He was 74 from family sources confirmed.

According to relatives Gilani had been experiencing some serious health problems for a long time. His illness worsened in the days previously in the presence of ongoing medical care.

He was undergoing treatment at Sheikh Zayed Hospital for heart and liver related complications where doctors made a huge effort to stabilise him.

Syed Salman Gilani was highly regarded in literary and religious circles for his soulful naat recitations and impactful poetry.

His work was known for its simplicity emotional depth and clarity which made it accessible to people of all walks of life. Alongside the devotional poetry his humorous verses also gained him widespread appreciation.

Funeral prayers will be held after Zuhr at Jamia Ashrafia with a huge number of scholars students, admirers and literary figures expected to attend.

Reacting to the news Maulana Fazlur Rehman head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) expressed a deep sorrow over Gilani’s demise calling him a precious asset. He offered prayers for the departed and the bereaved family with condolence.
