Riding industry booms as the competition increases

WEB DESK: The riding industry in Pakistan is dynamic and changing at a rapid pace. There is intense competition among major international and local players.

The existing market is dominated by companies, such as inDrive, Bykea, and Yango.

The boom in the market is an indicator of the extensive smartphone penetration of the country.

Advantages:

Ride-hailing applications have a lot of value to the population. They offer convenient, on-demand transport, which enhances movement in the city.

More importantly, the sites generate enormous employment opportunities.

In addition, the short-distance route is in high demand, fulfilling urgent traveling purposes.

Disadvantages:

If we come towards the disadvantages, firstly, the gig economy provides low levels of job security to the drivers.

Their wages may be less than the normal minimum levels. Second, price boom systems result in frustrations throughout the high-demand period.

Further, the traffic jams increase as the traffic on the road increases, caused by the presence of more vehicles.

This increases the levels of pollution in the crowded urban centres.

The Market Shift:

Uber left the market in 2022, and the market saw a tremendous change.

In mid-2025, Careem subsequently stopped its ride-hailing service. The gap was occupied by Yango.

It is noteworthy that the further rise highlights the need for the convenience of digital means of transport.

The ride-booking industry is a very crucial part of the urban economy.
