KARACHI: Karachi officials have enforced a ban on three and five-seater rickshaws on 26 major highways across the city to enhance the traffic flow and to make sure public safety.
The ban was primarily applied to 20 highways, but the scope has been expanded following the recommendations of DIG Traffic.
The ban on rickshaws from Shara-e-Faisal to II Chandrigar Road came into effect immediately.
Earlier, the restriction on 20 roads had been came into force from October 18 to December 17. With the addition of six more major highways, the ban will remain in effect for the same period as the original notification.
The Commissioner of Karachi issued the order under Section 144, instructing concerned departments. He also directed Deputy Commissioner to ensure strict and immediate implementation.
Authorities explained that the additional restrictions were imposed to enhance traffic management, public safety, and civic convenience.
By limiting the movement of rickshaws on these central roads, officials aim to reduce crowding, and create safer road conditions for travelers. The traffic police played a key role in reviewing road conditions and recommending the extension of the ban.
Officials said the decision was taken after careful consideration of traffic patterns and public safety concerns.
Passengers are advised to plan their routes accordingly and follow alternative transport arrangements where possible. Authorities have assured the public that all steps are being taken to ensure smoother traffic movement during the whole period.
The city administration emphasised that strict action will be taken against any violations, and the ban will be monitored closely to maintain order and convenience for residents of Karachi.
