England star Joe Root creates history with landmark 14,000 Test runs achievement

Joe Root hits historic 14,000 test runs milestone

England’s batting great Joe Root has etched his name further into cricket history, becoming only the second player in the world and the first from England to reach 14,000 runs in Test cricket.

Root achieved the landmark during the ongoing match against New Zealand, marking another major milestone in his illustrious career. In the process, he also overtook former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who finished his Test career with 13,378 runs.

The record for the most runs in Test cricket is held by Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, who amassed 15,921 runs. Joe Root now sits second on this all-time list.

Cricket experts say Root’s consistency and strong performances in different conditions have made him one of the finest Test batsmen of the modern era. If he maintains this form, he could potentially come close to Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

It is worth mentioning here that Joe Root has become only the second batter in history to reach 14,000 Test runs, achieving the landmark in his 302nd innings during his 165th Test match.

Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, meanwhile, had reached the same milestone far earlier in his career, doing so in just 279 innings during his 171st Test, a record that remained unmatched for 16 years.

Tendulkar first crossed the 14,000-run mark against Australia in 2010 and, since then, no player has joined this elite club until Root’s achievement.

However, Root still has a significant gap to close if he is to surpass Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 Test runs. He currently needs 1,922 more runs to move past the legendary Indian batter. Based on his recent form and batting average, estimates suggest that Root could take around 19 to 20 more Test matches to reach and potentially break this historic milestone.
