The federal cabinet has approved new designs for currency notes on the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance and decided to replace the Rs10 banknote with a Rs10 coin. The decisions were made during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where ministers discussed several key national issues, including administrative matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, currency reforms and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait.

During the meeting, the cabinet received a detailed briefing on the proposed designs for Pakistan’s new banknotes. Officials informed ministers that artists and designers from across the country had been invited to submit proposals for the redesigned currency notes.

Furthermore, a cabinet committee established by the prime minister conducted extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders before finalising its recommendations. According to the briefing, the redesigned banknotes will incorporate advanced security features aimed at preventing counterfeiting and strengthening the integrity of Pakistan’s currency system. In addition, modern materials will be used in the production process to improve the durability and lifespan of the new notes. The measures are intended to make banknotes more secure, longer-lasting and resistant to wear and tear.

The move forms part of the government’s broader currency modernisation initiative, which seeks to improve the security and durability of money in circulation.
The cabinet’s approval marks an important step towards introducing redesigned banknotes and updating Pakistan’s currency system.
