ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Television (PTV)’s renowned and founding news anchor, Ishrat Fatima Saqib, who is currently associated with Radio Pakistan is alive and well.
A fake news about Ishrat Fatima’s death had gone viral on social media, which was also shared by Pakistan’s leading anchor and filmmaker Tausiq Haider on his Facebook page.
Later, in the comments of the post, people asked Tausiq Haider whether the news he shared was fake, because Ishrat Fatima is alive and well.
The rumours were debunked when the anchor shared a video message and said she was completely healthy and alive.
Ishrat Fatima spoke to Tausiq Haider on a video call, which he live-streamed on Facebook.
Ishrat Saqib is a well-known news reader and anchor of PTV and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. She currently resides in Islamabad.
In the 1980s and 1990s, she was considered the face of PTV’s 9 pm Urdu news program. Ishrat Fatima started her career with Radio Pakistan, where she hosted a program called “Khel Aur Khiladi” while still in school.
Her confidence and fluent Urdu earned her the repute of a respected and dignified news anchor.
Ishrat Fatima served 35 years in the Pakistani news industry. Later, she also presented news bulletins for Voice of America.
In 2019, Ishrat Fatima was awarded the Presidential Medal for Pride of Performance by the President of Pakistan, the Medal of Excellence by the Government of Pakistan, and the Nigar Award.
