Russia backs Pakistan’s role in easing US-Iran tensions

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov met Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi on May 7 to discuss bilateral ties and the situation in the Gulf region.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, both officials reviewed ongoing relations between Russia and Pakistan and discussed plans for upcoming diplomatic engagements. They also exchanged detailed views on the current situation in the Persian Gulf, where tensions remain high.

During the meeting, the Russian side clearly supported Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. Russian officials appreciated Pakistan’s role as a mediator and said Islamabad is playing an important part in promoting peace and stability in the region.

They stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the best ways to resolve conflicts and avoid further escalation. The Russian side encouraged continued diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions and find a peaceful solution.

Pakistan’s ambassador also shared Islamabad’s perspective on the situation and highlighted the country’s commitment to maintaining regional peace through dialogue. He emphasised that Pakistan will continue its efforts to bring both sides closer and support peaceful negotiations.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and maintain close contact on regional and international issues. They also expressed their commitment to expanding bilateral relations in different areas, including diplomacy and mutual coordination.

Officials said the meeting reflects the growing partnership between Russia and Pakistan and their shared interest in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation in the region.
