Russia Rejects Claims of Putin Threatening Pakistan

Russia denies Putin threatened Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Russian Embassy in Pakistan has called social media posts claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened Pakistan amid rising tensions between Islamabad and Kabul as ‘baseless’ and ‘fake’.

In a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter), the Russian Embassy said that Russia emphasizes that the Pak-Afghan differences should be resolved through political and diplomatic means.

The statement added that Russia supports the resumption of constructive dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan, both of which are its friendly countries, especially on counter-terrorism cooperation and regional security issues.

The embassy clarified that “the original video is actually President Putin’s conversation with the media after the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society on October 23, 2025. He did not mention Pakistan or Afghanistan in his conversation.”

On Wednesday, several pro-Afghan and Indian users shared a video on X claiming that Russian President Putin had warned the Pakistani military and declared support for Afghanistan.

However, the video has now been declared fake, with dubbed audio added instead of the original audio and has no connection to Pakistan or Afghanistan.

Talks between the two countries have entered their fourth round in Istanbul, mediated by Turkey and Qatar, but the process has been stalled several times.

Pakistan has agreed to restart talks with the Afghan Taliban in Istanbul, Türkiye, following requests from both the Taliban and the host nation, security sources told Xinhua on Thursday.

According to the sources, the Pakistani delegation, which was earlier set to return, will now remain in Istanbul to continue discussions.

“It has been decided to resume the negotiation process and give peace another chance,” one official said.
