Talented South Africa easily defeated India by 76 runs in their Super Eights encounter at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Earlier, South Africa endured a shaky start against India in their Super Eights encounter at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup; however, it managed to score 187-7 in the first inning.
After being put in to bat, the Proteas hoped for a solid foundation from openers Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram. However, neither batter was able to settle at the crease, as India’s disciplined bowling attack struck early blows to put South Africa on the back foot.
De Kock, known for his aggressive stroke play at the top of the order, struggled to find fluency before departing cheaply. Markram, leading the side, also failed to convert his start, leaving the middle order with the task of rebuilding the innings under pressure.
With the scoreboard reading 20 for three inside the power play, the momentum firmly swung in India’s favour. The Proteas will now rely on their experienced middle-order batters to steady the innings and post a competitive total in this crucial Super Eights fixture.
South Africa got off to a poor start, losing three of their key players for just 20 runs. However, experienced batsmen David Miller and Brewis formed an excellent partnership of 97 runs for the fourth wicket, helping the team recover from early trouble.
South Africa finished with 187 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted overs. David Miller scored 63 runs off 35 balls, Brewis contributed 45, and Stubbs added 44.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly for India, taking three wickets for 15 runs.
However, none of the Indian batters could play steadily. Shivam Dube scored 42 runs, while Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav scored 18 runs each.
For South Africa, Marco Jansen took four wickets, Keshav Maharaj claimed three, and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets.
