FAISALABAD: Following the launch of e challan in Karachi, Faisalabad has also announced to introduce the system to automatically penalise traffic violators.
As per details, the traffic police, in a joint venture with the Safe City Authority, officially launched the long-awaited e-challan system in Faisalabad.
Speaking to a press conference, SSP Safe City Malik Tariq Mahboob and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Nisar Javed Rana said that the new challan system went live at midnight on November 6, with advanced network of surveillance cameras.
The latest 1,430 Safe City cameras and an 495 monitoring cameras across the city will automatically generate e challans and the it will sent to directly to the traffic violators’ home addresses.
The e challan system uses AI to catch the traffic violators who make signal violations, lane cutting, speeding, failure to wear helmets, and not fastening seat belts.
“Anyone passing through a Safe City camera without wearing a helmet or seat belt will be fined automatically,” added SSP Malik Tariq. “Our aim is not to impose fines but to promote a culture of road safety.”
Karachi’s New E-Challan System
Sindh government earlier launched a Karachi E-challan system to improve traffic flow and traffic management in the city.
In Phase 1, 1,076 cameras have been installed on major roads under the Karachi Safe City Project.
Phases 2 and 3 will expand to 12,000+ cameras across the city and toll plazas.
When a camera detects a violation, an e-challan is created and sent by Pakistan Post to the address linked with your number plate (Sindh Excise & Taxation data).
You have 21 days to pay. Pay within 14 days and get a 50% waiver, miss the deadline and the fine doubles on day 22.
Moreover, provincial administration introducing new governance tools to to improve city’s administration.
Karachi E-challan: cameras, fines & how to appeal
Enforcement results (Day 1): Within the first six hours, Karachi Traffic Police issued 2,662 E-challans over Rs12 million in fines.
Key counts: 1,535 for not wearing seat belts, 507 for riding without helmets, 419 for over speeding, 166 for running red lights.
Moreover, 32 for mobile phone use while driving, 7 for tinted windows and 3 each for wrong way driving.
Penalties if you don’t pay: After 3 months, your driving license can be suspended.
Similarly, after 6 months, police may ask NADRA to block your CNIC (you’ll be notified first).
Additionally, a demerit points system is live, reach 30 points in a year and your license can be suspended.
How to appeal an e-challan: If you think the ticket is wrong, visit the appeal desk listed on the back of your challan (desks at 11 police stations).

You’ll receive a token, a 3-member committee (SSP-led, a senior police officer, and a CPLC representative) reviews your case in 3 to 4 days.
The 21-day payment timer pauses during review. If approved, the challan is removed.

The E-challan system currently covers only Sindh registered plates.
Register with CNIC, mobile, and email to see all vehicles under your CNIC, violations, and warnings, useful for fixing habits and avoiding future fines.
