The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering Sahibzada Farhan for the permanent captaincy of the national T20 team in consultation with head coach Mike Hesson. According to sources, Farhan could replace Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan’s T20 captain as the PCB works on a long-term strategy ahead of the 2028 ICC T20 World Cup.
The plan focuses on developing a wider pool of players who can establish themselves as core members of the national T20 squad in the coming years. Farhan has already been appointed captain of Pakistan’s T20 team for the men’s cricket competition at the ongoing Asian Games.
He is also likely to retain the captaincy for Pakistan’s home T20 series against Sri Lanka, scheduled for October 9, 11 and 13 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Sources said Hesson favours retaining Farhan as captain in the shortest format, but a final decision on his permanent appointment will be made after assessing his batting and leadership performances during the Asian Games.
Pakistan’s T20 campaign at the Asian Games will begin with the quarter-final on September 28, giving Farhan an opportunity to demonstrate his leadership abilities in the new role. Meanwhile, questions have been raised over Salman Ali Agha’s recent performances in international matches, prompting the PCB to review the T20 captaincy situation.
