A search operation is underway for a young woman who went missing after a boat capsized at Saifullah Lake in the Kalam area of Swat. Meanwhile, the bodies of six members of the same family who lost their lives in the tragic incident have been shifted to their hometown of Lahore for burial.
According to officials, rescue teams are searching for 24-year-old Bushra Samoi, who remains missing following the tragic boat accident that occurred yesterday at Saifullah Lake.
Under the supervision of the District Emergency Officer, specialised water rescue teams from Rescue 1122, along with police officers and local volunteers, are conducting an extensive search using modern rescue equipment. Despite deep waters and difficult terrain, rescuers are making every effort to locate the missing woman. As of now, Bushra Samoi has not been found, and the search operation remains ongoing.
Taking serious notice of the incident, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed the relevant authorities to submit an immediate report.
The bodies of the six victims have been taken to Lahore for burial. According to sources, seven members of the same family were on board the boat during a visit to Swat.
The deceased have been identified as retired Colonel Aamir Awandal, his 20-year-old son Abdullah Awandal, his 23-year-old daughter Rawal Awandal, his 27-year-old daughter Parva Awandal, Parva’s one-year-old son, and another family member who also lost their life in the accident.
Family members said that Bushra Samoi had returned to Pakistan just five days earlier after completing her higher education in the United States. She had travelled to Swat with her family for a vacation when the tragic accident occurred.
It is worth mentioning here that a tourist boat carrying members of a single family capsized in Saifullah Lake in the Kalam area of Swat, resulting in multiple casualties, police said.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swat Muhammad Irfan, earlier five people had died in the incident, while four others remain missing after the boat overturned with nine family members on board in Swat District. Rescue operations are underway as authorities continue search efforts for the missing individuals. He said rescue teams are continuing search operations for the remaining four missing people.
The DPO added that the bodies of the five victims were recovered near the Mahodand area. Muhammad Irfan Khan further stated that rescue personnel, police officers, and local volunteers are taking part in the ongoing search operation for the missing family members.
