The salaries and allowances of judges of the superior judiciary have been increased, with the pay and benefits of Supreme Court judges in line with those of judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.
As per details, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the summary on the recommendation of the federal government.
Under the new package, the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s monthly basic salary has been fixed at Rs1.55 million, while the basic salary of other Supreme Court judges has been increased to Rs1.5 million from Rs1.1 million, marking an increase of around Rs400,000 per month.
The judicial allowance for Supreme Court judges has also been raised from Rs1,161,163 to Rs1.5 million per month, an increase of nearly Rs339,000.
The new salaries and allowances will take effect from December 10, 2025, with judges also entitled to financial benefits and arrears for the previous period.
Following the approval, the presidential order will be known as the Supreme Court Judges’ Salary Order 2026.
The package also includes changes to the pension structure of Supreme Court judges. The age limit in one pension-related provision has been increased from 70 to 75 years, while another age limit has been raised from 85 to 90 years.
Supreme Court judges will also receive a monthly medical allowance of Rs150,000.
High Court judges also get pay raise
A separate summary approving an increase in the salaries of High Court judges has also been approved.
The revised salaries will take effect from July 1, 2026. The monthly basic salary of a Chief Justice of a High Court has been fixed at Rs1.254 million, while other High Court judges will receive a basic salary of Rs1.205 million.
The basic salary of High Court judges has been increased from Rs1.095 million to Rs1.205 million, representing a monthly increase of Rs110,000.
A new facility has also been introduced for judges who have served as Chief Justice for more than two years. They will be allowed to purchase an official vehicle at a concessional price upon retirement or elevation to a higher court.
Retired judges may also be allowed to receive fees for serving in federal government arbitration matters.
