The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has imposed a ban on the sale of SIM cards across all mobile phone companies in Pakistan from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 am. The move aims to curb the issuance of illegal SIMs and strengthen the security system in the country.

According to details, PTA has issued important instructions to all mobile phone companies, directing them to suspend SIM card sales nationwide during these hours.

The decision has been taken in view of rising concerns over fake and illegal SIM usage, in order to ensure user protection and a transparent telecom system.

The PTA stated that all authorised franchises, retailers, and other sales points will be responsible for strictly following these timings. It warned that strict legal and administrative action would be taken against those violating the instructions under telecom laws.

The authority has also advised citizens to purchase SIMs only from authorised centres during the designated hours and to ensure mandatory biometric verification before activation. PTA has urged the public to report any violations through the PTA Complaint Management System, PTA CMS app, Digital Assistant WhatsApp service, or the toll-free helpline.

According to the spokesperson, this initiative by the authority is for the protection of citizens and stopping the sale of illegal SIM cards.
