Samsung to unveil world's first-ever rollable-screen smartphone

Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce a new type of smartphone that could mark its next major innovation after foldable devices. The company is aiming to launch its first commercially available rollable-screen smartphone during the mid of 2028. This device will be able to transform from a compact phone into a tablet-sized display.

The device features a 10-inch rollable OLED display that expands from a standard smartphone into a larger screen for work, entertainment and other daily tasks. Unlike foldable phones, the display would extend outward, creating a tablet experience while maintaining the portability of a regular smartphone.

The device is being developed by Samsung Electronics, while Samsung Display is in advanced discussions to supply the specialised rollable OLED panels. The main objective is to combine the convenience of a smartphone with the larger workspace of a tablet in a single device.

Samsung aims to strengthen its leadership in next-generation display technology as Chinese manufacturers continue expanding their presence in the foldable display market. Samsung hopes to maintain its position as one of the leading innovators in premium smartphone technology.

The new handset may be introduced under the name Galaxy Z Slide, although Samsung has also registered the trademark Galaxy Z Roll, leaving both branding options under consideration. The launch would also roughly take place on the 10th anniversary of Samsung’s Galaxy foldable smartphone lineup.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy A57 and Samsung Galaxy A37 are also expected to launch soon in Pakistan, as Samsung prepares to expand its mid-range smartphone lineup.

Although an official launch date has not yet been announced, both devices are likely to enter the local market in the near future, bringing upgrades focused on performance and software.

Samsung Galaxy A57

The Galaxy A57 is set to feature Samsung’s new Exynos 1680 chipset built on a 4nm process, offering improved performance and enhanced AI capabilities with a more powerful NPU. The device also includes upgraded cooling with a larger vapor chamber, making it more efficient during extended usage such as gaming.

Despite these improvements, the phone is slimmer and lighter, while also offering enhanced durability with an IP68 water resistance rating.

It retains a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, allowing up to 60% charge in around 30 minutes. Storage options are expected to start from 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, going up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The phone will sport a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and brightness of up to 1200 nits.

In terms of cameras, the Galaxy A57 will include a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro camera, along with a 12MP front camera. The focus this time remains on software enhancements rather than major hardware changes. The expected starting price is around $550 (approximately PKR 144,999).

Samsung Galaxy A37

Meanwhile, the Galaxy A37 is expected to arrive with the Exynos 1480 chipset, previously seen in the Galaxy A55, offering reliable mid-range performance. It will run on Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and offer configurations starting from 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

The device maintains a similar design with a plastic body and also receives an upgrade to IP68 water resistance. It packs a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, delivering similar charging speeds as the A57.

The Galaxy A37 will also feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080p resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1200 nits brightness, though the panel is expected to be slightly less premium. Its camera setup is largely similar, but the ultrawide sensor is reduced to 8MP.

Both smartphones are expected to include in-display fingerprint sensors and offer up to six years of software support. The Galaxy A37 is likely to be priced more competitively, starting at around $450 (approximately PKR 124,999), making it a more affordable option in Samsung’s upcoming lineup in Pakistan.
