As Eidul Fitr 2026 approaches, Pakistanis are wondering whether new currency notes will be available this Eid.
The State Bank of Pakistan has issued an update in this regard, refuting news reports about the non-issuance of fresh banknotes for Eid.
Here is the procedure for getting currency notes this Eid through SMS:
Open the SMS application on your mobile phone.
Enter your CNIC number, then add a space and type the code of your chosen bank branch.
Send this message to 8877.
You will receive a reply containing a unique transaction code along with the address of the selected bank branch.
You can also visit SBP physically to get fresh currency notes for Eid.
Separately, the State Bank of Pakistan plans to introduce redesigned currency notes this year, a project that has been under consideration for more than a year. The central bank has finalised the designs and submitted them to the federal cabinet for approval.
Once the cabinet grants its approval, the printing and distribution of the new notes will begin. This article explains the proposed changes in simple terms, outlining what is happening, why it is important, and how it may affect citizens.
