Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar's Group Wins SCBA Election

Web desk: The Independent Group, backed by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon, has won the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections.

Haroon ur Rasheed has been elected as the new SCBA President, marking a major victory for the group and a boost for the government.

The SCBA is one of Pakistan’s most influential lawyers’ bodies, often playing a key role in matters linked to the Supreme Court.

It says it is, ‘Dedicated to upholding justice, promoting legal excellence, and safeguarding the rule of law for a stronger legal community.’

SCBA Elections

According to the results of the Supreme Court Lahore Registry in Lahore, Haroon-ul-Rashid secured 629 votes, while his opponent, the candidate from the professional group, Taufiq Asif, secured 431 votes.

6 votes of the presidential candidates were cancelled. Haroon-ul-Rashid secured a lead of 198 votes from Lahore.

A total of 1066 votes were cast in the registry, while 1460 lawyers were declared eligible to vote from Lahore. 4379 lawyers were eligible to vote across the country.

Lawyers congratulated Ahsan Bhawan and other leaders on the success of the independent group.

According to the results received from Karachi, Haroon-ul-Rashid secured 195 votes, while Taufiq Asif secured 185 votes.

In Multan, 256 votes out of a total of 315 were cast, in which Haroon-ul-Rashid secured 135 votes and won, while Taufiq Asif got 115 votes. 6 votes were rejected in Multan.

In Sukkur, Haroon-ul-Rashid secured 55 votes while his opponent, Rafiq Asif, got 13 votes.

And in Swat, Haroon-ul-Rashid won with 27 votes, while Tawfiq Asif got 23 votes.

In Dera Ismail Khan, Haroon-ul-Rashid secured 23 votes while Tawfiq Asif came in second with 17 votes.

In Hyderabad, Haroon Rashid won by securing 64 votes, while Tawfiq Asif got 33 votes.

While in Quetta, Haroon Rashid also won by securing 121 votes, while his opponent, Tawfiq Asif, got 101 votes.

In Bahawalpur, the Independent Group won both the President and General Secretary seats.

Haroon Rashid won the President seat by securing 89 votes, while Tawfiq Asif got 37 votes.

Zahid Aslam Awan of the Independent Group secured 88 votes for the General Secretary seat. While Mian Irfan Akram of the Professional Group secured 36 votes.

With these results, the Azam Nazir Tarar Group has continued its success in the Supreme Court Bar Association.

The Independent Group’s win is being seen as a shift from past opposition-leaning leadership. And a move that could strengthen government influence within the legal community, according to the observers.

People have expressed mixed reactions to the news.

Some welcomed it as a positive development, saying it is an opportunity for youngsters to take charge.

PM Shehbaz Congratulates Independent Group on SCBA Election Victory

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has congratulated the independent group on winning the Bar Elections.

PM Shehbaz congratulated the head of the Independent Group Ahsan Bhoon and expressed best wishes to the newly elected office bearers.

‘The government has always considered the legal community as an important partner in the reform process,’ PM Shehbaz stated.

‘The newly elected president and office bearers will continue the mission of supremacy of the constitution and law in the country,’ added the PM.
