Schools across the Sindh province, including in Karachi, will remain closed tomorrow (January 17) on account of Shab-e-Meraj, falling on 27th Rajab.
The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for schools on January 17 across the province, according to an official notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department.
The holiday will apply to all public and private schools working under the department’s administrative control.
The decision was approved in a sub-committee meeting of the Steering Committee on Education, officials said.
Copies of the notification have been sent to the Governor House, Chief Minister House, and Chief Secretary’s office.
Directors of school education have been directed to inform all institutions immediately.
Shab-e-Meraj will be observed from tonight across Pakistan with religious gatherings, special prayers, and night-long worship.
Earlier, the Sindh government revised school timings due to the ongoing cold wave.
The Education Department announced that schools will now open at 9am, while closing times will remain unchanged.
The revised timings came into effect from January 12 and will continue until January 26.
Officials said the decision was taken to protect young students from severe cold conditions.
The move was made on the instructions of Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah, according to the department.
