It appears that the travel-related difficulties of residents of the twin cities are likely to ease in the near future, as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to link the Islamabad Intercity Bus Terminal with the Islamabad Metro Bus Service and Electric Feeder Bus Service.
The proposed terminal will include modern electric charging facilities at four designated points to support electric buses, in line with the city’s sustainability goals. The initial feasibility report of Islamabad Intercity Bus Terminal has been prepared.
Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Mohammad Ali Randhawa met with a delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the CDA Headquarters to review progress on the proposed Islamabad Intercity Bus Terminal and other transport-related projects.
ADB officials informed the meeting that the bank is preparing an optimal financial model for the project, which will be integrated with Islamabad’s existing Metrobus system and the Electric Feeder Bus Service.
The proposed terminal will also include modern electric charging facilities at four designated points to support electric buses, in line with the city’s sustainability goals.
The delegation further shared that ADB is providing technical assistance for the preparation of the Islamabad Transport Master Plan, aimed at developing an efficient, integrated, and environmentally friendly urban transport system.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman CDA Mohammad Ali Randhawa emphasised the importance of sustainable development and urged ADB to extend technical assistance for acquiring carbon credits for environment-friendly projects.
He said that the government is utilising all available resources to provide citizens of Islamabad with modern, efficient, and Eco-friendly travel facilities. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue collaboration to enhance Islamabad’s transport infrastructure.
It was worth mentioning here that the CDA is actively linking Islamabad’s public transport by integrating its growing electric bus (e-bus) feeder network with the existing Metro Bus system, creating seamless travel for commuters via new feeder routes connecting residential areas and key points like NUST, PIMS, I-16 to Metro stations like Golra Morh.
