Secretary-General of the UN praises Pakistan over US-Iran deal

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, praised Pakistan for playing its role as a key negotiator to end the conflict between the US and Iran. He also congratulated the US and Iran on the peace deal.

He praised Pakistan and other countries that played a role in easing the tensions between the US and Iran. He wrote in a post on X, “I warmly congratulate the US & Iran for having reached a peace deal that provides for an immediate & permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a framework for further negotiations. This represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

My deep appreciation goes to Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and other regional countries for the constructive role played in supporting the negotiations that led to the peace deal.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the US-Iran signing ceremony will be held on June 19 in Geneva, adding that Pakistan will host the signing ceremony.

Similarly, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said today during the National Assembly session, “Today, by the grace of Allah, the world has crossed a historic milestone. Describing the development as a turning point after a period of global tension, he said, “After the night of war, the sun of peace has risen.”
