The section 144 in Punjab is extended for seven more days and the restriction has been imposed because of the threats of terrorism and the safety of the people.
The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification prohibiting them from gathering, rallying and protesting.
Under the order, public gathering of four or more person is banned at all in Punjab. It will also be banned for anyone to organize any gathering in public places without permission. However, the personnel of law enforcement agencies in the course of its duties is exempted from the restriction.
Gatherings pertaining to weddings, funerals and burial ceremonies are also exempt from the ban. Meetings in government and semi-government offices as well as court proceedings are not affected by the restrictions.
The display and use of all forms of weapons in public places have been totally banned throughout the province.
As per the spokesperson of the Punjab Home Department, the time frame of extension of section 144 will remain in force till March 14. Authorities have been ordered to take all possible measures to ensure law and order and safeguard the lives and property of the citizens.
District administrators and police in the entire province of Punjab have been directed for strict enforcement of the order.
According to intelligence reports sensitive gatherings could become targets of terrorism and sectarian violence.
