Rawalpindi: The district administration has further extended Section 144 across Rawalpindi city until December 31, according to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema on Monday.
It states that a complete ban has been imposed on rallies and public gatherings.
Moreover, it added that the use of loudspeakers and the display of weapons have also been prohibited strictly.
The notification stated that Section 144 has been extended to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) enables the district administration to issue orders in public interest that may place a ban on an activity for a specific period of time.
Such a ban was implemented by the police on 8th December, who registered cases under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for violations of the ban.
Section 144 was imposed in Rawalpindi at the start of this month when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced a protest outside the Islamabad High Court, and later outside Adiala Jail, after not being allowed to meet Imran Khan.

The Rawalpindi district administration extended the enforcement of Section 144, imposing restrictions on public activities until December 24, officials had confirmed previously.
Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, Hassan Waqar Cheema, issued the official notification outlining the extension.
Under the renewed restrictions, all public gatherings, including rallies, processions, and demonstrations, were prohibited.
The notification also specified that assemblies of more than four individuals at any location would not be allowed during this period.
Additionally, the Muree administration imposed Section 144 for December 25 and New Year’s Eve to ensure law and order and smooth traffic flow in the hill station. An official notification was also issued in this regard.
