ISLAMABAD: Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a close aide to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and a senator for the PML-N, passed away on Monday after a protracted illness.

He was 75 years old.

Senator Irfan Siddiqui was admitted to the ICU due to health complications. According to the reports, Senator Irfan Siddiqui had been ill for two weeks and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Islamabad.

Earlier family sources had told that Senator Irfan Siddiqui had been under medical care for several days after developing severe breathing issues.

But he was not placed on a ventilator, as per family sources.

Irfan Siddiqui was the parliamentary leader of the ruling party in the upper house of parliament and was considered a close associate of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif.

He was the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and a member of various committees, including Business Advisory, Human Rights, Information and Broadcasting, Interior, and Narcotics Control.

Party members called him a guiding force and a source of wisdom, whose work helped shape PML-N’s parliamentary strategy and ideological path.

Najam Sethi has expressed sorrow over the passing of Senator Irfan Siddiqui. He posted in a tweet on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, “Very sad to hear of Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s passing. May he rest in peace.”
