Maintaining law, order in AJK top priority: Chief Secretary
Earlier today, the AJK Chief Secretary Khushal Khan said that maintaining law and order in Azad Kashmir is the top priority of the government.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Inspector General of Police Malik Liaqat Ali today, on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary discussed the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
He said that he personally attended all meetings with the protesters and that all practical demands were implemented.
He further added that several development projects had also been launched and had reached the tender stage.
The Chief Secretary also said that all demands that were legally possible were accepted. And those against the law and state interests could not be fulfilled.
He said the committee’s demand to remove advance tax was rejected because it would have caused a loss of Rs35 billion to the region.
He added that the Government of Pakistan currently provides around Rs350 billion in financial support to Azad Kashmir. Adding that this helps maintain electricity and wheat subsidies.
