Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the opening of Shaheen Chowk a major development project in Islamabad, aimed at improving traffic flow and urban infrastructure.

Additionally, the M-Tag has been granted a 15-day extension. Minister Talal Chaudhry announced the extension, which was decided after consultations with public representatives. Today marked the final day of the M-Tag deadline; long queues were observed outside the registration office. The move aims to allow contractors to finalise pending work without compromising quality, while keeping the project on track to meet Islamabad’s development goals.

Minister Naqvi said the Shaheen Chowk, Murree Road underpass, Serena Chowk and Business Station Centre projects were successfully completed this year. The Capital Development Authority (CDA), contractors and other relevant agencies jointly ensured timely completion.

“Projects are being opened immediately to benefit the public and improve traffic movement,” Naqvi said. He noted that dozens of development projects were completed this year with a focus on quality, durability and maintaining the city’s aesthetic appeal.

Naqvi added that work on repairing damaged roads and restoring infrastructure is continuing. Under the Vision 2027 plan, detailed strategies for projects over the next two years are being finalised, with an emphasis on increasing the number and scale of development initiatives.

He praised the CDA chairman and project teams for their performance, noting that several projects are in their final stages and predicting that the number of completed projects will double in 2026.

The minister also highlighted ongoing work on Islamabad’s new cricket ground. The official tender for the stadium project has been issued, with plans to construct one of Pakistan’s most visually striking cricket stadiums.
