Senior journalist Shaheen Sehbai has come under fire after sharing an AI-generated image involving former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and an unknown woman, raising serious ethical concerns.
The image, posted on Sehbai’s verified X account and later deleted, showed a fabricated proposal scene with Nawaz Sharif and a woman sparking a debate.
He had stated in his deleted tweet that feeling inspired by Maryam’s new look, Nawaz Sharif is thinking of second marriage and is ready to send a proposal. He even posted an AI generated picture of Nawaz Sharif.

Following criticism, Sehbai issued a public apology on X. He admitted the post was below his professional standards and accepted that critics were right.
In his statement, Sehbai said he was persuaded by people around him to share the image despite knowing it crossed ethical lines. He added that the post went viral within hours.
He claimed he deleted the tweet around 3am after waking up and realising it was inappropriate. He described the content as “below the belt” and expressed regret.
However, the episode has triggered a wider debate in Pakistani media circles about journalistic responsibility and to keep aside their personal vengeances.
