Cricket legend Shahid Afridi named Sindh police Sports Ambassador

Internationally renowned Pakistani cricket legend Shahid Khan Afridi has been appointed as the Sports Ambassador of the Sindh Police Sports Board. A ceremony to mark the occasion was held at the Muhammad Ali Shah Auditorium at the Central Police Office in Karachi.

The event was attended by Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho, Chairman of the Sindh Police Sports Board and DIG Traffic Karachi, SSP Media and Public Relations, prominent business figures and other dignitaries.

During the ceremony, Shahid Afridi was presented with a certificate of appointment as Sports Ambassador. IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho and Shahid Afridi also exchanged commemorative shields. Speaking on the occasion, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho thanked Shahid Afridi for accepting the role, saying that his association with the Sindh Police Sports Board was a great honour for the department.

He said the promotion of sports has always been a priority for the Sindh Police and that organising sports activities within the department had long been a dream. He added that the dream had been realised with the support of the business community.

Javed Alam Odho expressed gratitude to members of the business community who had supported the Sindh Police, saying the objective of promoting sports was to encourage young people to participate in healthy activities and keep them away from drug use.

He further announced that a major sports festival would be organised in November, with police personnel from across the country participating. Speaking at the ceremony, Shahid Afridi said he was born in Karachi and recalled that the Sindh Police once had three cricket teams. He said it had been his childhood dream to join and play for the Sindh Police cricket team.

The former Pakistan captain said he was happy and honoured to be appointed Sports Ambassador of the Sindh Police Sports Board. He thanked the organisers and the Sindh Police for entrusting him with the responsibility. Afridi pledged to cooperate with the Sindh Police in every possible way to encourage young people to participate in sports. He said he would work alongside the police to promote sports and engage the younger generation in positive and healthy activities. Earlier, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho met with Shahid Afridi, during which they discussed various initiatives to promote sports within the Sindh Police.
