Shaukat Khanum Hospital, NAMAL University Accounts Blocked

Web desk: The bank accounts of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) and NAMAL University have reportedly been frozen, according to Aleema Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Malik.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Malik said the accounts of both institutions had been blocked, and the matter had already been taken to court.

Aleema Khan expressed serious concern over the move, saying that freezing her personal accounts, along with those of NAMAL University and other related institutions, posed a threat to students’ futures. She also filed an urgent plea seeking the immediate unfreezing of Shaukat Khanum’s accounts.

Her lawyer appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) and submitted a petition stating that essential medicines for the hospital were stuck at the port. He warned that failure to clear the payments could endanger hundreds of patients, as many of the medicines waiting for release were life-saving.

The petition argued that the hospital is facing severe operational problems due to the frozen accounts, which are needed for daily payments.

Malik further noted that Aleema Khan has already surrendered before the court, leaving “no justification” to keep the accounts sealed. He also questioned who would be held accountable if a patient died because of the delayed delivery of medicines.

The ATC accepted the petition for a hearing and issued notices to the prosecution to present their arguments. Both sides will give their submissions on Saturday before ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah.
