Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) has denied rumours circulating on social media regarding the alleged cancellation of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for its fundraising activities in Karachi.
The hospital has denied that their NOC for the annual fundraising gala has been cancelled and has issued a clarification in this regard.
Hospital Issues Clarification
Taking to its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the hospital administration clarified that the information being spread was misleading.
According to a statement issued by the hospital, reports regarding the withdrawal of an NOC by the Islamabad administration actually date back to December 2023.
That specific issue related to a gala dinner planned for December 29, 2023, and has no bearing on current operations, the hospital said.
According to the hospital, fundraising and construction for the Karachi hospital have continued without any interruption since then.
Shifa Yousafzai’s fake news
The controversy erupted after journalist Shifa Yousafzai and several political figures, including former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, shared claims that the government had blocked the hospital’s efforts to raise funds for its Karachi project.
The news quickly went viral, sparking a wave of criticism against the administration from various political circles.
However later the journalist deleted her tweet and said it was an honest mistake and was not an attempt to spread fake propaganda.
