Kamil Khan unveils ambitious plans for Sialkot PSL franchise

Sialkot announces official team name Sialkot Stallionz for PSL 11

Kamil Khan, co-owner of the new Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricketing team awarded to Sialkot, has stated that the team entered with a clear vision in the cricket world with ambitious long-term plans, and is very committed to building a competitive side.

Sialkot became the eighth team of the PSL officially, earlier this month with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) handing over the franchise to OZ Developers owned by Hamza Majeed during a high-profile PSL auction at the Jinnah convention centre in Islamabad. With this addition, PSL will have a new format of six to eight teams, the 2026 edition will be played from March 26 to May 3.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Khan revealed that the franchise will unveil its official team logo and the appointment of the president later today. He said the management has already started laying the foundation stone to make sure that the team makes a mark in the first season.

Khan stressed that the attraction of high international players will be an important priority for the franchise, next to investing in local coaching expertise. He said the aim is to have a balancing act between the attractive talent from around the world and domestic development so that the team can represent Sialkot with pride.

“Our aim is to buy world-class international players for the Sialkot team,” Khan said. “At the same time, we believe in the power of local coaches as well as developing players who have the region’s identity, so we can carry them forward.”

In his opinion of the PSL’s rising popularity, he said fan interest would be strong no matter where matches are being staged. The league, according to Khan, now has evolved into one of the most attractive sporting events in the country.

Khan also said that there was a budding rivalry with Lahore Qalandars, which he has called competitive but friendly. “Matches against Lahore Qalandars will be explosive. “We are the ultimate rivals on the field and friends off the field,” he said.

Praising the role of the PSL in strengthening the Pakistani cricket, Khan said that the league would continue to increase in stature. He added all the major decisions about franchises would be finalized in close coordination with the PCB.

The inclusion of Sialkot is expected to add a new wave of energy and regional diversity to the PSL as it begins to embark on a new period of expansion.
