To everyone’s surprise, the famous tourist spot of Sindh received its first snowfall of this winter with temperature dropping to -2 degrees Celsius.
Gorakh Hill Station, located in the Kirthar mountain range of Dadu district along the Sindh–Balochistan border, was hit by intense cold.
Visitors from all over Sindh are rushing towards the Gorakh Hill Station, as they usually don’t get to see such sites, covered with snow.
It is the only high-altitude recreational destination in Sindh and is considered the coldest and most scenic spot in the region, where snowfall occurs occasionally during the winter after several years.
Gorakh is located in the Kirthar mountain range at an elevation of over 1700m, along the border of Sindh and Balochistan.
Earlier, Galyat and surrounding mountainous areas were warned of increase in cold weather.
A new weather system has entered the country that is causing rain and snowfall in several regions, said the Metrological department.
Alerts have been issued due to the risk of landslides and further rain is expected in upper parts of the country from today through tomorrow.
Islamabad may experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms during the night.
Rain is also predicted for parts of Sindh including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Dadu.
Strong snowstorms are expected in Murree with additional snowfall likely in Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Shangla.
Areas such as Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galyat, Neelum Valley and Bagh may also receive rain and snow.
In Balochistan snowfall is ongoing in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah and road closures are feared in Noshki, Harnai and Zhob due to snow accumulation.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cloudy weather with intermittent rain, gusty winds, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hilly areas in several parts of the country is expected during the next 24 hours.
According to the PMD, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, along with snowfall is likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, northeast Punjab and northeast Balochistan.
The department warned that isolated areas of Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may receive heavy rain along with moderate to heavy snowfall, while cold and dry weather will prevail in most other regions.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has placed relevant districts on alert and deployed heavy machinery along major highways to minimize potential disruptions.
Citizens and travelers have been urged to remain cautious particularly in hilly areas where landslides and flooding in streams are possible.
