Sindh Police and Motorway Police in Karachi have begun a joint operation against transporters over high fares and unsafe transport practices ahead of Eid ul-Fitr.

The campaign is being carried out by Sindh Police and Motorway Police, with safety checks taking place at the Jamshoro toll plaza.

Senior officers, including SP Motorway Police Adeel Shehzad and DPO Jamshoro Zafar Siddique, were present during the operation.

Action against overloading, high fares

Officials say strict action is being taken against public transport operators who carry extra passengers or charge fares above official rates.

According to authorities, vehicles found overloaded are being stopped, and passengers travelling on bus rooftops are being asked to disembark immediately.

DIG Javed Akbar Riaz said the steps are aimed at preventing accidents, which often increase during busy travel periods.

Checks on documents, road safety

Officers have begun checking vehicles at multiple locations, taking action against those found violating regulations.

Transporters carrying passengers beyond permitted capacity are being fined, while overloaded vehicles are being stopped.

Passengers travelling in unsafe conditions, including on bus rooftops, are being asked to get down immediately.

Police are also inspecting drivers’ licences, vehicle fitness certificates and route permits is being taken against over-speeding and other traffic violations.

Authorities say a zero-tolerance policy is in place for dangerous practices such as driving on the wrong side of the road.

Focus on safer Eid travel

Officials say the operation is intended to ensure safer travel for people heading to their hometowns for Eid.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, vehicles with worn or unsafe tyres are not being allowed on highways, and strict checking is continuing.

The authorities say action will continue without exception against those who break traffic rules during the holiday period.
