Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has dismissed as fake a notification circulating on social media that claimed a public holiday for educational institutions across the province on February 7, 2026.
The viral notification, attributed to the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department, stated that all government and private schools would remain closed on February 7 on the occasion of the Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
It further claimed that the decision had been taken during a meeting of a sub-committee of the Education Steering Committee.
However, rejecting these claims, Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah clarified that no such notification had been issued by the Provincial Education Department.
He termed the document misleading and urged the public not to fall for unverified information circulating on social media.
The minister appealed to parents, students, and educational institutions to rely only on official announcements and refrain from sharing unconfirmed notifications that may confuse. Authorities have advised citizens to verify any updates regarding school holidays through official government channels.
On the other hand, on the instructions of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, an official teachers’ helpline has been established for the first time in Sindh. The helpline will serve as a regular platform for receiving complaints and suggestions from teachers of both public and private schools.
This initiative is an important step toward providing professional guidance and resolving issues faced by teachers. The teachers’ helpline has been established following the decision taken at the 18th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA).
The helpline will be operational every Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Calls from teachers will be received directly by the Redressal Committee.
