The bodies of six people who were swept away in floods in the Landi Kotal and Jamrud areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been recovered.
According to rescue officials, the relief and rescue operation by Rescue 1122 is still underway following flash floods in the Landi Kotal and Jamrud tehsils of Khyber district caused by torrential rains.
Officials said that more than 50 rescue personnel and diving teams took part in the operation. More than 100 vehicles stranded in floodwaters on the Pak-Afghan Highway were moved to safer locations, while the bodies of six people were recovered from three vehicles that were swept away by the flood.
They said that the bodies of two young men were recovered from Landi Kotal, while the bodies of four other people, including a child and a woman, were recovered from different areas of Jamrud. The bodies were handed over to the relevant authorities for legal procedures, bringing the death toll from the floods in Khyber district to six.
Rescue 1122 officials said that operations in Ali Masjid Camp, Landi Kotal, Sultan Khel, Jamrud, and Takhta Baig have been completed. Roads have been cleared, and traffic has been restored; however, rescue teams remain on alert in the affected areas.
District Emergency Officer Engineer Shariq Riaz Khattak said that Rescue 1122 teams are providing round-the-clock services to protect the lives and property of citizens.
He urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains and flooding, stay away from rivers and flooded areas, and ensure that children do not go near water bodies.
