Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday highlighted ongoing clearance operations in Murree after heavy snowfall disrupted normal life and traffic in the hill station. In a post on X, she praised Shaheera Naveed, XEN Mechanical, for leading the snow clearance operation, calling her efforts commendable.
Maryam Nawaz wrote on X, “Snow fall in Murree. Clearance operation underway. A lady officer Shaheera Naveed XEN Mechanical is leading the operation. Shabash.”
Snowfall in Murree has prompted authorities to launch emergency measures to keep roads open and ensure the safety of tourists and residents. Heavy rain and snowfall have raised concerns over traffic congestion and travel disruptions in Murree, a popular tourist destination during winter.
Due to worsening Murree weather, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) advised people to avoid unnecessary travel to Murree and nearby areas. Tourists have also been urged to stay updated on official weather advisories.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has directed provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert. Emergency teams have been asked to stay ready and take preventive steps to reduce the impact of the adverse Murree weather conditions.

Authorities on Thursday issued a fresh weather alert for January 23 as rain and snowfall continue to affect large parts of the country, raising fears of road blockages, flash flooding in streams, and travel disruptions, particularly in northern and hilly areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the ongoing weather system is likely to bring widespread rain and heavy snowfall across all provinces and northern regions. In response, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged citizens to remain cautious and follow official advisories during the wet spell.
Special concern has been raised over Murree weather, as heavy rain and snowfall may disrupt traffic and tourist activities. Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised tourists and residents to avoid unnecessary travel to Murree and nearby areas and to remain updated on the latest weather situation.
