KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi decides to end sit-in in Rawalpindi
KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has decided to call off the sit-in that was underway at the Gorakhpur checkpost in Rawalpindi.
According to sources, during consultations with Allama Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, it was agreed that the CM would return to Adiala on Tuesday. Supporters will also be asked to gather during the scheduled family meeting.
Mahmood Achakzai told the media that the KP Chief Minister will approach the High Court over the issue of being denied a meeting with the PTI founder earlier in the day.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s sit-in outside Adiala Jail has starkly exposed the shrinking street power of PTI, with media reports saying only 15–20 people are participating and the local leadership of Rawalpindi and Islamabad largely absent.
The protest is being held near the factory naka close to Adiala Jail, where Sohail Afridi is demanding a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan to “personally check on his health and the political situation.”
Reporters on the ground say that as the cold night set in, “the number of participants dropped to around 15,” and twin-city party leaders remained “disengaged and missing” from the camp.
Earlier in the day, the small sit-in still managed to choke traffic on Adiala Road, leaving commuters stranded while a handful of protesters occupied the carriageway.
Critics argue this underlines how PTI’s strategy has become centred on symbolic agitation around Imran Khan rather than on governance or public service in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to media reports, Adiala Jail administration sent Assistant Superintendent Imran Riaz to the protest site for negotiations.
Jail officials, citing court orders, reportedly assured the CM that a meeting with Imran Khan could be arranged through proper legal procedures.
CM KPK Sohail Afridi, however, has publicly demanded that the jail superintendent “give in writing that the PTI founder is completely fine in jail” before he ends the protest. After conveying this condition, the jail delegation returned to the prison.
With such a thin turnout and core PTI leadership from the area staying away, the Adiala sit-in has raised fresh questions over Sohail Afridi’s priorities. Whether the KP government is more focused on staging protests for Imran Khan than addressing the everyday challenges of its own citizens.
