Web desk: Sohail Afridi has taken the oath as the new Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) today.

His election comes after the resignation of the former CM of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, and he has taken the oath as the 30th Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held at the Governor’s House.

Many political and social figures, PTI’s central and provincial leadership, attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Senior government officials also attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath of office to Sohail Afridi as Chief Minister in accordance with court orders.

Previously, Muhammad Sohail Afridi was elected as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while the opposition walked out of the assembly.

The session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati. In which Sohail Afridi was elected by 90 members of the provincial assembly, unopposed.

Despite a boycott from the opposition, PTI’s Sohail Afridi was elected as the Chief Minister (CM) of KP.

Prior to that, a great controversy surrounded the resignation of the former CM OF kp, Ali Amin Gandapur.

During the elections, Sohail Afridi secured 90 votes unopposed.

Whereas the assembly session, chaired by Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Maulana Lutfur Rehman, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Arbab Zarak Khan got no votes at all as their members staged a walkout from the session.

Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation

The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, acknowledged that he had received two purported resignation letters from Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s office, dated October 8 and October 11, 2025.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur took to X, stating that the Governor’s Office has now acknowledged receipt of his October 8 resignation, which it had earlier denied.
