A senior official of Islamabad police has shot himself

ISLAMABAD: Superintendent (SP) Islamabad Police shot himself on Thursday. He was shifted to the hospital in critical condition.

According to initial reports, Superintendent Police of Industrial Area Adil Akbar pulled a gun from his subordinate and shot himself. He was performing duty at the Serena Hotel.

He was shifted to PIMS Hospital in critical condition. However he succumbed to his injuries.

According to police sources, SP Islamabad Police Adil Akbar received a phone call on his cell, after listening to the call he pulled the gun from his operator’s holster and shot himself. The operator has been taken into custody for questioning.

Senior officials of the Islamabad police including IG Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi have reached the hospital.

The police have started investigations into the incident.

According to police sources, they are trying to retrieve the mobile data from the deceased police officer’s phone to see from whom he received the last call.

Adeel Akbar was a distinguished officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) and had assumed charge in August as Superintendent of Police (SP) Industrial Area, Islamabad.

He held an MPhil in Governance and Public Policy from the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad. Starting his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, he served with dedication in several districts of Balochistan, where he led multiple police units.

He had brought with him extensive experience in security management, community policing, human rights protection, counter-terrorism, human resource management, police operations, security analysis, and crisis management.
