The National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has suspended the membership of opposition lawmaker Iqbal Afridi for the remainder of the current session following a motion approved by the House.
During the proceedings, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed strong displeasure over Afridi’s conduct, alleging that he had repeatedly behaved inappropriately with parliamentary staff and fellow lawmakers.
Addressing the opposition member, the speaker said junior employees were unable to respond to such behaviour and accused Afridi of misusing his position as a member of the National Assembly.
The situation escalated when Iqbal Afridi left the House during the proceedings, prompting further criticism from the speaker. Ayaz Sadiq warned the lawmaker to leave the chamber voluntarily, stating that security personnel would escort him out if necessary.
Following the speaker’s directive and after security staff were alerted, Afridi left the assembly hall.
The motion seeking the suspension of the opposition member was moved by Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz Akbar. After obtaining the House’s approval, the speaker formally suspended Afridi’s membership for the remainder of the ongoing session.
The development led to heated moments in the National Assembly as lawmakers witnessed disciplinary action being taken against the opposition member.
